Mike and Ron,

Thanks for the advice.  I made the washer for my post vise out of 1/2 "
plate about 3" sq. and beat it down into the swage block with an old trailer
ball.  Then I torched out the hole and took off the corners of the square
that didn't look right.  It's one heavy duty washer.  late in the day I
started another from 7/16 and I think the next will be 3/8.  Before I took
the torch to it, the domed square looked like it might make a nice little
candle holder.
