Don...I got the same offer for a boat.  If your friend agrees, cashes  the 
check and wires the balance to the recipient, when the check bounces your  
friend will be stuck having to pay the full amount of the check + charges.
 
I called the FBI on my offer and they said, essentially, a sucker is  born 
every minute and there is nothing they can do since the transaction is  foreign. 
 Interpol might listen, but probably not closely.
 
I let my transaction go until the check came, then called it off.
