Don,

the check that you receive is stolen . It will appear to be good but 
by the time you get it fully processed it will bounce higher than a 
kite. The scam is that they want you to deposit the check and then 
immediately send them the "balance" along with the equipment so when 
the baning system finally barfs on the bad check they gave you they 
already have your money and the gear. It is a very common internet 
scam that has been honed to a fine art by the Nigerians.
