NWBA Fall Conference  Friday, Sat. Sunday Oct. 15-17   @ Alan Flashing's
farm and studio,  11933 Elkhead Rd. Oakland, Oregon.

The folks in the know would like to tell you that camping is highly
recommended since Alan's farm is a way's off the beaten path. There is
plenty of space avail. and it's FREE. Travel trailers and 5th wheels are
also discouraged due to parking constraints.  Nearest lodging is the Rice
Hill truckstop 10 miles distant with a Best Western $49 (541-849-3335) and
'The Ranch' 36$ motel  (541-849-2126) 
 17 miles in Sutherlin (more restaurants and grocery stores, etc.) is the
Sutherland Inn 39$ (541-459-6800), the Town and Country motel $33
(541-459-9615) and finally the Umpqua Regency Inn at 61$ (541-459-1424)


Directions:
>From the North:  I-5 South 37 miles past Eugene, exit 154 towards
Yoncalla/Elkhead, go LEFT at Stop sign, EAST under freeway, 8 miles to 11933
elkhead road on the right.

>From the South: I-5 North past Oakland to exit 146 (Metz hill), Go Right
(East) Go 2.8 miles following winding road (Goodrich highway) look for a RED
barn, turn Right on HOGAN rd.,  follow 5 miles to Elhead rd. Go LEFT for 2.8
miles to 11933 Elkhead rd. on left.


Featured Demonstrator Vladimir Sokhonevitch was director of the Metals
program at the Institute of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia. Our latest
NWBA magazine, The Hot Iron News has a great sampling  on his body of work.
His style is heavily sculptural with abstract leanings towards the human
form. 


I'll be teaching one of three hand's on workshops to be offered on a
first-come, first-served basis. My subject will be Forged lap joints using
simple tools and the assembly of a small frame utilizing this technique.

Demonstrations run from noon to 5pm Friday, 9-5 Sat. 9 to noon on Sunday.
Auction Sat. night after dinner. Bonfire, Fire dancing and Midnight Madness
(forging until ? AM) Sat. Night.
