For the first time in better than a week I'm getting list mail. WooHoo! Then
I saw this subject and thought Double Yipee WooHoo! A thread about
generating emergencies!
Uh. . . oh well. <sigh>
I'll second Steve's input and add a thought or two.
On occasion we lose power and our backup is a Lincoln Ranger 9 welder
generator. Usually the power isn't off long enough for me to haul it to the
house but it's there.
It's rated at 9kw and powered by an Onan gas engine. If I had it to do over
I'd spend the extra $ for diesel. We used the R-9 to build our house and a
10 hr shift running saws, compressor and misc power tools ran us about 12 gl
of gas.
The same engine and load on propane will take maybe 30% more fuel and a
diesel about 40% less.
The other really good thing about a welder generator is of course having the
welder. The R-9 is rated 100% at 350 amps.
Anyway, that's my two bits. Diesel welder generator. All safety equipment
included regardless of generator.
