[TheForge] Restoring a champion blower

Alix,

Every one I've see had recessed screws with a slot heads and square nuts on
the fan housing.

The barings are loose (no keeper ring) and are held in place by the cone
race. You just have to pack them in place with heavy greese to hold them
until the shaft and cones are tightened up. Behind the cones there is a
keyed washer and lock nut. You just have to play with the tension until it
feels right, it needs to be tight enough to not have any free play but loose
enough to turn freely.

The fan itself is just held in place with a lock (jam) nut.

The bearings on the hand crank shaft are the same as the ones on the
worm/impeller shaft.

The bevel gear shaft just has bushings and a single point of contact on each
end. You can adjust it's position and how it contacts the worm gear by
loostening one side and tighting the other. This adjustment will have the
greatest affect on how well your blower works. You can adjust this after
the whole thing is together, just play around with it until it is quiet and
smooth.

Hint: While testing, if you block the air outlet with a rag it will turn
easier becaues it's not moving as much air.

I think they are pretty simple, of course I was rebuilding car and
motorcycle transmissions when I was in high school.

Be carefull not to force anything. If you break something you can't get
replacement parts. The only part easy to replace would be the bearings
themselves.

I'll try to get a picture in the morning.

Hi Bob,
Yep, a picture would certainly be very appreciated! Glad to hear that these
things aren't that hard to reassemble. My husband is absolutely mesmerized
by the internal mechanical workings and eager to assemble this for me. He
did have a question about how the blower fan blade casing went back
together. All we could find in the old box were square nuts. Are these
original? They will work but they don't seem to fit the aesthetic design of
the blower.
