Alix: I don't have a schematic for the gears, but I have a champion 400 on
a portable rivet forge. The gear faces are often bronze and the large gear
turns a pair of smaller gears that rotate the fan. There is a separate
spindle for each gear. You can remove rust and repaint with rust oleum on
the outside. Inside the casing, at the bottom, is a sump for lubricant. I
would recommend filling the sump with Marvel Mystery Oil, if you can get
it. Try an auto parts store.
