[TheForge] Restoring a champion blower

Hi,
I usually just lurk, but need some advice. I had a wonderful windfall this
weekend through the generosity of Chris.  He had notified the list about a
champion forge blower at an estate sale in Sacramento.  Since I'm in the
area, I bought the blower.  It's in pieces, but looks like all the pieces
are there.  It's a Champion #400.  It doesn't have the stand, but that's ok.
Everything else is there in pretty good shape.  It does have some rust.

My question is what to put on the outside of the casing to preserve it.
Machine oil, paste wax?  Any suggestions would be great.  Also, if anyone
has a schematic of the insides, that would be very helpful.  My husband is
going to put it back together for me, I will be doing the rust removal part.
