It's funny you should mention this.  A friend of mine
who is a general contractor, and I were discussing
problematic customers and our approach to them, and it
was pretty similar.  This guy has been in business for
25 years or so, and is pretty good at identifying them
up front.  When he thinks a potential customer is
going to be problematic, he just estimates the job,
and multiplies by three.  If he doesn't get the job,
fine.  If he does get the job, that's fine too.

The hard part can be identifying them up front.
