Thanks Steve, never checked out a newsgroup before, but I'll peruse it after
I figure it out for a while. And thanks for the tip on etiquette, not
unlikely I'd have stuck my foot in it. And I'm not really sure I could get
more spam! Which I'm sure is a naive comment :) let the flood gates open!

As others have said, the manual isn't going to explain how things work,
more how to do adjustments, etc. The manuals I've seen really haven't
been worth much. Most of the adjusting is straightforward to figure out
if you have a general reference like the South Bend book.
A manual is a nice addition if you can get it inexpensively. Put a note
up on the rec.crafts.metalworking newsgroup. You'll have to read replies
there; folks don't take well to being told "please respond by email as I
don't read the group". rcm is a fairly well behaved newsgroup. Note,
however, that posting your email address in the clear (such as your
Identity in your mail program) will gift you with more spam.
