As it happens, higher won't be a problem. This will be a
verticle-motion Oliver (what else?). I have to make sure it stays
linear at the low end.

If you mean Oliver in the generalized sense...IE Treadle hammer..then I
think it is desirable to have the anvil considerably higher...Pete F
