It took a few minutes to come in my small wire but it was fun
to watch. Thanks. The links look to me to be 3/4" stock but...

I got a small booklet some time ago named
Chains and Chainmaking from Centaur I think. This booklet
also has pictures from the Noah Hingley shop. It has photos
of the making of the anchor chain for the Titanic. The links look
to be about 3" diameter with a "cast iron stud" in each link.

I used to think that the studs made the chain stronger but learned later
while reading the Machinerys Handbook (22nd ed.) that the studs
were put in to "prevent the chain from kinking and catching, so that
it will run free from chain lockers, etc.", and actually may not be as
strong as chain without studs.
