[TheForge] Chain & Treadle Video

Broad Band is wonderful. I got that about a month ago. I love listening
to glitch free NPR web radio.

I took someone's posted email lead, and looked up realplayer.com &
downloaded "Real Player" and finally got the video to open this morning,
and watched it a dozen times.

Thanks.

His treadle hammer was a pretty straight forward, no frills design. It
certainly looked like he was dancing on the kick treadle , but I was
guessing that the hammer weight couldn't have been much over 25 pounds. To
me, the treadle hammer looked like it was hitting on some kind of "horn
like" addition / attachment to the side of a big, maybe 400 pound
semi-conventional anvil.

Also guessing that there might have been a single purpose: swage like
groove in it to help position the link for the treadle hammer / final
forge weld.

Certainly there is no wasted motion in anything he
did. Another wild guess, but it looked to me that he was making the
chain from at least half inch diameter thick stock.

No one would take bets that he was one tired fellow at the end of the day.
