Hi, Roger.
One approach I've seen is to have a stationary flange and a flange that's
mounted on the bolt, both sticking out toward the user (horizontally). These
come together like two slices of bread when the bolt is closed, and the lock
can go through the matching holes in the flanges.
It's kind of a "farm gate" approach, may or may not be suitable for the
project...
