During one of my visits there, a metallurgy prof at MIT showed me a
large piece of meteoric iron that had been sawn, polished and etched.
It had a stunning pattern.  I gullibly asked how one might reproduce
that pattern and he happily told me that I just had to cool it slowly
enough.  Heh.

I have forgotten the exact numbers but it was in fractions of a degree
per century, give or take an order of magnitude.


So Phlip, does your client have a deadline?  :-)
