Good morning from Wannabe
I finally managed to get some coal from a smith in
Lunenburg. He says its fron Penn. For a newbie and a first fire it was to
easy.It fired up without to much ado and cokes up like nobodys
business, almost like a miracle. And the really strange thing to me ,after
reading up on forge fires for a year or so was the total lack of
clinker.Mike Murphy has solved that with his mini novel on coal.My question
to you is :I bought a tape on smithing from an Ontario smith and in the
video i noticed he had a hack which he seemed to attribute to smithing
without a lot of worry (smokers cough?).I seem to have read somewhere that
coal smoke will turn to acid when moisture is introduced.Does this happen in
ones lungs and HOW worried should i be about coal smoke???My forge once it
gets going gives off no noticable smoke into the shop but i noticed a sore
throat after a few forging sessions.Would appreciate any input and should i
install an exhaust fan?
                                                                  Paddy P
the wannabe
