Phil:
The best thing to do is gently grind the chipped edge to a nice round
radius.
Welding almost always leaves soft areas as well as a brittle HAZ, no
matter how well done.
A few years down the road there is a substantial risk of chunks
breaking loose.
Welding on an anvil is a last resort. I think inretrospect anvil repair
by welding will turn out to be a disaster in many cases....PF
