I can sympathize Aaron. We heat with oil and last month cost almost $200
too. I started cutting and splitting the day after we got the bill. I needed
to cut those trees anyway as that's where I want to build the shop.
We have 5" of urethane in the walls and 7" in the roof, low E windows and
darned air tight, 1800 sq', two stories on a full basement. The basement
daylights on the downhill side with 6' wide double doors, unfortunately
facing into the prevailing wind and -20f at 90mph will suck the heat from
anything.
Still, you've been hit harder than we have. We have Cook Inlet just a couple
miles from the house to moderate things. Nothing like 30'+ tides coming in
off the Japanese currant to cut the chill. Interior AK. is MUCH colder, -36f
in Fairbanks today.
+9f today, clear sunny, 3-5 mph wind from the NE. Aurora forcast tonight is
for moderate activity.
