The house has a forced hot-air oil furnace, but the prices for that are 
through the roof. (I just spent over $200 for the last month's worth of 
oil, and that's with 2 wood stoves going pretty near full time)

HD is offering one for about $90 per day, but I haven't really shopped the 
prices, so I could probably find one cheaper. At the $90 price I could buy 
their splitter in about 11 days of use, and while I don't know if I could 
justify 11 days of splitting in one year, I don't think it would be too 
many years before that added up.

Thanks for the different perspective. I don't think I'm gonna switch to gas 
in the near term, but its always good to be looking at alternatives.
