Aaron,

We burned wood as our only heat source for 11 years. Probably 5-6 cords
per year. We now use propane and it costs us around $600 per year to 
heat
the house, heat my shop, gas forge,  dry clothes and cook. Looking back 
on the whole
thing I wish I would have switched to gas a lot sooner. Cutting wood is 
hard
and dangerous work.

BTW I can rent a 20 ton hydraulic splitter for $40 per day. If you have 
a pile
of wood and some friends you can split a lot of wood in a weekend and 
let
someone else maintain and store the thing.
