Maybe I've grown too cynical as I've aged, but I emit an increasingly
louder chuckle when folks say they want to help people improve
themselves: I think they need to realize an ever-growing number don't
want to improve themselves and will bitterly resent any attempt to
influence them to do so. Those who want to improve themselves will and
will find any help they need on their own. Those are the ones worth your
time and aid. :)

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in one pretty and well-preserved piece.
One should rather skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,
totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!"
