I'm interested in other smiths' ideas on this. So far, I've blended MIG
welds with the rest of the piece by cleaning and polishing the whole
piece. I used to use phosphoric acid solution, then beadblasting, then
polishing with Cratex points on a die grinder. Now I have a more
powerful bead blaster so I can start with that.

Once the whole piece is silvery polished, or gray textured, you can
apply a finish from there.
