One other thing Clifton did was make the toggle arms longer so they actually
held the hammer slightly above horizontal when tightened.

At the St. Louis  conference there was a fellow with a jazzed 25# LG that
drew an 18"? taper on 1" square stock in one heat.  I think he was a show-me
local, and I believe he was hitting at about 200+- bpm  Anyone recall?  It
was an impressive show.  He could also get single snapping blows with the
clutch/brake setup.  Was right amazing what that little 25'er could do.
