[TheForge] - a safety issue?

The simplest implementation of the idea I had would have added two parts
to the tongs, and these would have been "transparent" to the user.
These tong would have prevented pinching of fingers between the reins.
I did not develop the idea much beyond this point before asking whether
there was a need. I'm now convinced that there is no need for what I
designed.

Now, if I can come up with a design that also prevents losing a finger
if the power hammer twists the tongs in your hand, then I might be onto
something.

I put a finger between the reigns all the time when picking things out

of a coal fire, never when hammering though. As before, no one plans
to
screw up. I am curious about Bruces idea, if it has thirty seven moving

parts and twelve precision pivot points, then it might not be for me,
but something simple to incorporate when forging a new set of tongs
might be welcome. The common GEM paperclip developed as a safer way to

secure papers together than the then used straight pin.
