	I've never used anything.  I've heard that it can be
	helpful, but never saw a need for it.  In Marshall's
	shop in NJ, his 250# Trenton is on a steel base.  The
	88# Brooks is on steel.  My 417# PW is on a stump and
	lashed down by the first forge.  Going from one to the
	other, I never noticed any difference in the way any
	of them worked in terms of rebound.  They are all a bit
	sing-songy.
