Bob,
I have 4 anvils of different sizes and designs. One is on a really heavy
work table (3"x4'x5' oak butcher block with 3" dia iron legs), one on an angle
iron base, and two on stumps. I also have a "portable" stump made of fitted
layers of 2 by 8. I can separate the layers for easy transport. All my anvils
get anchored down to their bases. I think the ones on the stumps are damped
slightly, since I can't feel the vibration in my feet like I can with the
others, but more importantly but the ones on the stumps don't move. The one on
the table makes the table bounce. The angle iron base walks a tiny bit when I
work for a long time and the portable stump is too wide for my liking...gets in
the way. The tree stumps just feel better to me. I think weight and wood has
the advantage. (I have heard sand filled ones are good too)
oh...BTW Phlip...the anvil has to point east.......:)

Isn't sanity really just a one trick pony, anyway? I mean, all you get is one
trick, rational thinking! But when you're good and crazyooh hoo hoo hoothe
sky's the limit!
