[TheForge] anvil stand

I am making an angle iron stand for a nice Kolswa anvil that has just
been sitting on the floor for a couple of years. My other anvil sits on
a similar angle iron base (1/4"x2-1/2"). The anvil is fastened to the
base and the base is fastened to the concrete floor. I used no
plywood/rubber/or other type of cushion between the anvil and the base
or between the floor and the base. I like it and it works well. Being
fastened down mutes the ring.

I read opinions on this at other sites. Some say you should have a
cushioning material...some say not. I know that Fisher made a cast iron
stand. I think the reason that most anvils were/are on stumps is that
that is what was/is available. Not necessarily that stumps were the
best. I think I remember Jerry Hoffman having plans for a poured
concrete stand but I don't remember if he used a cushioning material.

The reason I am asking is that someone stopped by a few days ago and
was sure that I should have something between the anvil and the base.

Any opinions?

Thanks.

Bob
