Yes it is indeed effected by gravity... there is a phenomenon called a 
grvitational lens.. it is how we detect such things as blackholes, brown dwarfs, 
etc. The light is bent as it passes through the influence of a high mass object. 
This actually changes the apparent position of said star as it is behind the 
high mass object. It can be bent and slowed down.
