I generally use either phosphoric acid, roughly 20 % concentration.(I make
it using pure phosphoric acid and a 64 oz juice bottle with the neck cut
off. 2 bottles and enough water to fill a 5 gal bucket ) OR get several
gallons of white vinegar.

I'd use rubber gloves with the acid and a stiff brush.
