I personally think most of the copper "roses" out there look more like
carnations. The key I've found is to leave a gap of about 1/4" or so between
each set of petals. This keeps the conical shape of a real rose. Another
thing that helps is to peen the petals so the edges overlap, this gives you
more real estate to crinkle and curl, ands makes the rose look fuller.
As for patterns, I bought a steel rose pattern from Jere and traced it onto
very thin tin sheet. You can almost cut this tin with scissors. It works
great for all types of patterns and wont rust..
just my 2 cents after making 50 to 60 roses over the years

Mikey,
I got my paterns from the book "best of Chapter news letters" available
from ABANA.
It said that they originated with Dorthy Steigler. They range from 2" to 4"
by half in incriments, the 2" has 4 petals the rest have 5. I don't know
much about rose types but I would guess they are more of a cabbage since I
couldn't get the center as tight as I wanted. I'm hoping that cutting deeper
will let me make more of a bud.
