[TheForge] tips for cleaning steel?

I'm not sure what stock you use, but a friend of mine who makes a living
selling yard art he makes said that he won't let hot rolled in his shop
anymore as cold rolled is much less messy and the difference in cost is
easily made up for by not having to clean it or get things nasty when
dealing with it.  Personally I get most of my stuff from the junkyard, but
that's what he said.
