Spray it with dark brown paint.  Before it dries completely, spray  it 
with a light brown coat of paint.  Immediately work it with a brush to 
create a grained looked.  Haven't done this since the early eighties 
when woodgraining was briefly popular on hot-rods.    You can probably 
find a better description and pointers on the technique by doing a 
google on faux woodgrain paint.  Oh, hell, I just went and did it:  here
