Boy, talk about dancing around the subject! "Minuet to minuet?" Sorry,
couldn't resist! I have this vision of Colonial blacksmiths in
waistcoats and tri-corner hats and their ladies in crinolines timing
their heats by the dance. LOL!
Mikey is correct, BTW. If I remember my gas supplier's explanation
correctly, LPG acts more like a vaporized liquid than a true gas. The
vapor "droplet" size varies with temperature, velocity of flow,
pressure, and turbulence. "Droplet" really implies something much larger
than propane vapor particles. It doesn't generally break down into
molecules like a boiling liquid does, at least not in something that
uses as much fuel as quickly as a forge burner. Think of it as a very,
very, very fine fog as opposed to steam.
Best example is a fuel-air bomb: You get this kind of light haze, over a
large area, that suddenly all burns at once. BOOM! (Why you shouldn't
let your burners run unlit.:)
Mikey, does propane ever actually reach a molecular gaseous state, at
higher temperatures maybe?
Somebody with more knowledge than I will have to step up and give a
better explanation, but that's how I visualize it.
BTW again -- I was using MIG contact tips for orifices several years
ago. Dave Wilson used to have a little article I wrote on building my
forge on his site. I recently bored mine from .045 to .062 and added a
blower since I no longer take that forge on the road.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in one pretty and well-preserved piece.
One should rather skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,
totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!"
