A friend had the same problem. He tried WD-40, larger tips, larger
sheaths... He started using 308 stainless wire. One roll lasted him 9
months. He says it blends in OK.

I must say I always use the same size wire as tip and have had no =
problems,
but then again I live in a very dry climate. Possible this =

a solution for those with a pitting problem on their wire. Has anyone =
else
ever heard of this?

  =20

The tip is called a contact tip there is a camber in the wire that=20
causes the wire to have a continuous contact . A larger sized contact=20
tip than the dia. of the wire will cause sporadic arc,
burn back and really skew up a good weld. There is also a helical twist=20
to aid in the flow of current.
