Mark,

Yes.  Wanted the pattern to stand out at a distance.  After etching, I
applied some beeswax, heated it to carbonize it and blacken the
ornament. 
Finally I sanded lightly with 800 grit wet paper to reveal the raised
areas.

Just posted a pic to the recent works folder.

 

It’s a Cable Damascus Christmas Tree Ornament.  

Forge welded the cable then upset a 2 ½ inch piece into a flat disk. 

 

 

Very nice Bill...Heat colored?
