i agree there are many other variable that come into play when deciding
on which fuel gas to use. the point i was attempting to make was that
all-states web page is less than clear on the oxygen consumption of
their oxy-propane torch.

concerning cutting i agree the oxygen does the cutting the oxy-fuel is
for pre-heating only. after reading the information on the inner and
outer flames of acetylene and propane. it would appear that cutting with
propane would have a larger pre-heated zone. this may or may not be what
is desired.

clearly, using any oxy-propane torch for heating 1inch square bar for
upsetting is cost effective over oxy-acetylene for many reasons. the
amount of btus available in the outer flame of propane compared to
acetylene is a big factor. the  lower cost of propane compared to
acetylene is other factor.
