John:

If you're going to run oxy/prop I'd suggest checking out the "All States"
torches. While conversion tips "work" they really aren't designed to use
propane efficiently.

The All States rig is expensive, around $650 last time I looked but
operating costs are around 2% of oxy/acet. That isn't a typo it'll save you
98% cut to cut, heat to heat in gas over oxy/acet. No bull. I've owned one
for going on 20 years now and it paid for itself three times over before I
refilled the first 20 lb. propane bottle.

One 20 lb. (5 gl.) bottle of propane has the heating/cutting equivalent of
up to 15, 100 cu/ft acet bottles and even at today's high propane prices
that's about $9. Properly set an oxy/acet torch would use about 30 full
sized oxy bottles per 15 acet bottles. The All States torch will cut that in
half (15) for the equivalent heating/cutting.

Oxy consumption for a conversion tip on an oxy/acet torch is usually about
double what it is running oxy/acet, while the All States torch uses half the
oxy. That's 60 full size oxy bottles for the converted torch compared to 15
for the All States.

You don't have to take my word for it though, contct Lyle at All States and
arrange for a demo in your neighborhood. Telling him Frosty sent you
probably won't do you any good but it can't hurt. <grin>
