Bettina, Where your thinking on getting the square tube for the
floors....... the two sizes I've used with good luck are 3/8 x 6 x 6 in the
floor with any 5" square tube inside it as a tool post..........this is
obviously for very heavy vices and tools.
The other sizes that work well together are the 3 x 3 x 3/16 in the
floor and using a 2 1/2" post for lighter tooling. Or you can go slightly
larger and use 4 x 4 x 3/16 in the floor and use a 3 1/2" post......this
would make a nice overall socket for light and medium tools.
The trick with the square sockets is to maintain an 1/8 of an inch play
(first off so the weld seam clears, and secondly so the dirt and scale
doesn't jamb the post in so tight you won't be able to get the verticle drop
in post out of the socket.
So don't let them sell you reciever tubing to make a nice snug
fit..........you do no want that for two reasons.
1) it is expensive
2) dirt and scale will jamb it.

Thanks to everyone for the great input. I think I will stick with the
rectangular shape, but will adjust the wall height & roof trusses if
possible. My husband had actually brought home a copy of the Handyman
"Rustic Yard Shed" & is pushing for that with modifications. I'll
definitely adjust the venting & add the mechanisms in the concrete for
holding the tools. Most likely the square tubing will be the easiest & most
cost effective.
Thanks again to everyone.....pictures to come once it's done.
Bettina
