No, this is not correct. Polyurethane, polyester, and polyethylene are
three different polymers, also known as plastics. Their properties and
suitabilities for various uses differ. A polyurethane spar varnish may
be an excellent coating for iron - I wouldn't know.

in the manufacture of plastics just as polyethylene is.
Applying a polyurethane varnish with a high solids content to an
object
would have about the same effect as coating it with polyethelyne glue
as you
were describing.
