In addition to my earlier comments;

My jib crane is junkyard engineered with a 7" I beam 15' long.  It'll pick
up my 900# LG at 2/3 mast OK, but I didn't lift it very high or for long.  I
have made a temporary leg for the end of the boom and put it there to pick
up to a ton or so, but then it doesn't swing and I have to set things on
pipes or a dolly.

The last time I asked the same question on this site I was attacked for
needing to go back to school, etc. etc.
Perhaps that's why it get's too quiet on this site occasionally;  'Better to
remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt'
It's too bad because it can stifle discussion. Does bad information get out
there? Sure but it's nice to have a page of options to choose from.

I'm no engineer but I can tell you that for those loads you're looking to
handle you had better have some serious support.
You didn't mention wall mounted or free standing?
One option for a free standing one is to sink it deeply in yards of concrete
to offset the load.
In my limited space shop (12 1/2' ft celings) I wound up screwing I beams
directly to the wood ceiling rafters in the areas where I really need crane
access; by the overhead door entrance and by the 3B.
I'm not trying to pick up platen tables with them and for most everything;
anvils, saws, et al. they all fall within a 3-500lb range and has worked
well at that.

I didn't know you were going to be my free source.  I'm thinking 1 ton,
mast type(bearings at bottom and top).  The ceiling height at bottom of
timber is approx 14 feet.  I'd like the boom to reach approx 14-16 feet.
 No counter weight, I want it to be against the wall.  Thanks.
