The best spec says NO PRE-HEAT/ POST-HEAT!
That was enough for me.
It is a " highest impact " rod used in the rock crushing industry.
 Peen and work harden.  Excellent for tool to mild.
I don't get a very good color match after rust as this is a high manganese
rod.
AC/DC   150 amp. tight arc.
