[TheForge] pipe wrench mystery

Today at the junk yard I saw 4 or 5 sets of large pipe wrench movable jaws
welded together at the long ends, so that the two short bends were at
opposite ends of a wide short  U.

Any idea what they might have been used for?  Most consisted of the same
size moveable jaws welded together, but a few were of different sizes.  They
were in a pile of stuff that had a lot of pump parts and a couple of old RR
jacks, as well as a bunch of T-type lug wrenches with one arm missing.
