Just returned last night from parents weekend at University of Miami. My
daughter is a fine arts major and thought we'd like to see the Viscaya Mansion in
Coconut Grove, Miami. John Deering, founder of International Harvester Co.
had it built in the early 1900s, complete with 34 rooms and 50 acres of gardens
with wrought iron gates and hardware all done by Sam Yellin. Just beautiful.
If you get down that way, it's a must. The Summit of the Americas was held
there during the Bill Clinton era, and despite his obvious lack of morality
and integrity, he picked a magnificent venue to host the heads of state of the
western hemisphere's countries. We could have spent days there.
