If you mean "flat stock", the procedure is to point the end, then just
below the point, cut in from each side at an angle. That leaves a
roughly diamond-shaped finial, with two "barbs" ready to be spread away
from it. There are lots of variations, such as necking it down or
whatever. Surface embellishments may be in order. Is that clear?

If that's "plate stock"(?) as in sheet metal, the best bet might be to
cut away metal, rather than cutting and bending. Seems to me Don
Streeter showed dies for doing that in his book ($10 - cheap).

Hey Guys,
Probably a very pedestrian question for most of you metal manglers out
there, but I have never had the need or motivation to forge a
flour-de-lis from a piece of plat stock before, and I have a client who
wants that kind of detailing.
I know it involves hot cutting into the flat and bending the sides into
curves, but I am looking to make it elegant versus what I envision for a
process.
