Larry,

I stopped usind Netscape or Internet Explorer as a browser a while ago and
started
using Opera. In its tool bar you can turn off the pop ups ,turn off java
and select 
your own choice of page layouts.Oh by the way they have a free version with
a small
banner ad at the top of the page just under the Google search window.
