I admit I haven't been reading this thread; if I'm repeating someone 
else, sorry!

Ron Reil put together some very usable archives of theforge. You can 
find them at this page:
http://www.reil1.net/design1.shtml
and search until you find "The Best of Theforge". Very useful, html 
format, arranged by subject, no politics.
