Hey Ray,

Does it matterwhich stainless rod?

I've been working on an old Prentiss bench vise that I've never seen one of
before.  Instead of a large square shaft on the moveable jaw that surrounds
the screw it has two guides, both about 3/4 and 1 3/4.  One is abouve the
screw and parralel to the ground and one below the screw and perpendicular
to the ground.  Seems like a nice design.  The moveable jaw was broken clean
at the top of the upper guide.  I deeply grooved it all around on both
pieces and then filled in the grooves.  I didn't try it, but was wondering
if I could have done the outer welding that was really just to rebuild the
curvature of the upper jaw with my favorite 7024 rod.  Would it have damaged
the lower repair that was with the nickel rod?
