Agree with that. When I made my treadle hammer 5+ years ago I only made 
the "soft" plate thinking that I would make the "hard" plate later. I 
still haven't made it. Since I only use the t hammer for striking tools 
and not direct contact with the workpiece it doesn't matter if it has a 
few dingers in it.
