I know this is largely true throughout the midwest. In fact
this is where the "let's gut what precious little real education
we have left" movement began, and then spread like wildfire to
places like NY. This was the educational horror of the 70s
and 80s. I think for the most part it was well intended, but
the effects have been terrible, IMO.
When I enrolled Seshat at Mountain View here in Vancouver, I
stopped by the shops to see what horrors lay within. To my
utter surprise I found several very well equipped facilities
for metals, wood, plastics, etc. Apparently not every school
board in the US has gone insane. The shops here are in very
good shape, physically, financially, and in terms of attendance.
I was really pleased to find this out.
