[TheForge] Welding Question

I am working on a piece of railing that is aprox 75 years old, I am
salvaging several pieces from the original section. They used brazing
rod to form small collars at the base of the pickets.  My question is
can I weld the piket to my bottom rail, welding to the brazing, or
should I grind the brazing off and weld to the steel picket. In all the
welding i've ever done i've never ran into this situation.
